What does the Holy Spirit do?

The child will learn that:-

  • The Holy Spirit helps and comforts us.
  • The Holy Spirit will give you power and courage.
  • The Holy spirit is a teacher.

Opening Activity

  • What do you do when it’s cold? Do you drink hot tea or wear a sweater?
  • When it gets cold at night we like to take out our blankets and cover ourselves. We do this to feel the heat that the blanket creates in our body to feel warm.
  • When we use a blanket at night we are able to sleep through the night without feeling cold and wake up feeling more rested.

Bible Story

  • Have you ever seen a chicken? What sounds do they make? (Let the child make a clucking sound)
  • When a mother chicken produces young eggs she looks for a dark, comfortable, undisturbed area where she can sit on them for 21 days. That is 3 whole weeks.
  • She will pluck the feathers from her own chest so that her moist, warm skin keeps the eggs warm, and the feathers insulate the nest.
  • If anyone tries to disturb her, she will hiss, growl, shriek, puff up, and peck at you. She will keep the eggs out of danger from other animals like snakes and rats.
  • Can you see how much care is given to the eggs?
  • When Jesus prepared to return to God the Father he had a plan to take care of those who were left behind. He said, “I will not leave you orphaned.” (Orphans are children who do not have anyone to take care of them.)
  • Jesus said that he would not leave us alone. He told his disciples that he would send the Spirit of Truth to be with us forever. The Spirit of Truth is the part of God which lives inside of us. It is that Spirit which helps us know right from wrong and teaches us how to love and care for each other.
  • When you accept God’s love you are forever warmed by His Spirit. You are a precious child of God.
