Last Supper

The child will learn that:-

  • The last things Jesus did was have supper with his disciples, they had dinner together because Jesus loved them, and wanted to prepare them for the very tough days ahead.

Bible Story Reference: Matthew 26: 17-30

Memory Verse:

 John 6:48 (NIV)

“I am the bread of life”

Opening Activity

  • Recap last week’s lesson.
  • Display a Birthday card. Why do people send Birthday cards to each other? Because they want to celebrate their special day with them. How do you feel when you get a birthday card? ……… How often do you receive a Birthday card?
  • It makes us feel good when someone else remembers our birthday and they sing to us happy birthday and celebrate with us. Jesus asked his followers to remember him too.

Bible Story

  • Jesus and his disciples were preparing for a special day called the Passover. The Jews used to celebrate the Passover at this time of the year, so Jesus told his disciples to prepare the room where they would celebrate and also prepare the food.
  • Jesus told his disciples that one of them will betray him. What does betray mean? It means one of his friends who he trusted would go and tell on him to his enemies.
  • How did the disciples react when Jesus told them about the betrayal? They were very sad because they loved Jesus and did not want something bad to happen to him. They were shocked. None of them wanted to be the betrayer. They started wondering so we have a betrayer here among us? Who could it be?
  • What did Jesus say will happen to the person who betrays him? Something very bad would happen to him. The person who betrayed Jesus would be in big trouble for betraying Jesus the son of God.
  • How did Jesus tell his disciples to remember him in future? When they eat the bread and drink the wine, they would remember Jesus their master, everything he taught them and that He loves them.
  • It’s similar to the way we celebrate our birthdays to remember how God created us and gave us life the day we were born. We like to celebrate with cake, pizza, Ice cream, games, trips etc. But the real reminder is not the things we eat and drink, but the fact that we are alive. Jesus is also alive and that is the real thing we celebrate.
  • Jesus died many many years ago, more than 2,000 years ago yet the world has not forgotten Him. Do you want to forget Jesus? No, I know you don’t. What are some of the things you and I can do so that we do not forget Jesus?
  1. Read the Bible every day
  2. Pray – talk to Him daily
  3. Talk about him with others at home, school, church
  4. Follow him by doing what His word says
  5. Coming to church or listening to the service online
  • Even though we do not see Jesus with our eyes, we can remember Him, His life, what he taught us, and have a relationship with him. One of the ways Christians remember Jesus and His work is by celebrating Holy communion when we eat bread (signify his body) which was beaten and bruised for our sins and drink wine (to signify his blood) which was shed for our sins.
