Introduction
- In the last lesson, we learned about Noah and how obeying God helped him. We also talked about how all of us can benefit from obedience, too.
- Being obedient is one way that we can honour God with our actions. Today, we will be learning about how we can give glory to God, too.
Bible Story
Very long ago, after the flood, everyone spoke the same language and lived in the same place. But then, some people moved away. This caused others to come up with an idea.
“Let us build a city with a tall tower, a tower tall enough to reach the sky!” some of the people said. “We can use hard, strong bricks, and tar instead of only stone and mortar. We will be famous, and we will not be scattered all over the world.”
But God saw what the people were doing. It did not please him because they were not being obedient. They were not spreading throughout the earth as God had said to do (Genesis 9:1).
“These people are working together because they all speak the same language,” God said. “I will confuse them. I will cause them to speak different languages so that they cannot understand each other.”
So, God did just that. Because they no longer spoke the same language, they stopped building the city and scattered all over the earth.
Review
The people had become filled with pride. They were trying to become powerful and important on their own. They were doing what they wanted instead of doing what God wanted. People still struggle with pride today.
But God created us, loves us, and continues to care for us. He deserves honour and glory, not our pride.
- How does pride make God feel? (Angry, sad)
- What is the opposite of prideful? (Having humility, obeying and following God’s way)
- In what ways are people prideful today? (They seek money, fame and their own way instead of seeking God’s way.)
- Are you prideful or humble? How do your actions and choices show this?
Prayer
Dear God,
You deserve honour and glory. Help me to honour you through my words, thoughts and actions. Amen.
