Opening
Optional Introductory Activity: Carry a bowl/basket of fruits that are in season and show them to the children, e.g. apples, mangoes, oranges, etc.
Tell the children that today we will be learning about fruitfulness. Fruitfulness is a big word that means plenty, many, so much, or something that is a lot. For example, my basket of fruits has many fruits from the farm. That means that the farm was fruitful because very many fruits were harvested and sold to people. Today, we will be asking God to bless our country with fruitfulness. Ask: How many have ever travelled to… (call out some of the counties in Kenya, e.g. Kericho, Kisii, Eldoret, Samburu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Bungoma, etc.) We have 47 counties in Kenya with different people doing
different things to help our country. Some people are farmers who for example grow maize, tea, or keep animals; some counties are good in tourism. When they do well or produce a lot, we can say that our counties are fruitful. Show a picture of a farm e.g. a picture of people harvesting fruits, maize, onions; farm animals, and a basket full of different farm products. In our Bible lesson today, we will see the promises God made to the people of Israel if they obeyed Him. God will also bless the people of Kenya when we obey Him.
Bible Story
Deuteronomy 28:1-12 (Good News Version)
Optional activity: Every time you hear the word OBEY – stand up, and when you hear the word BLESS – put your hands together.
Let’s do a trial first. Obey – The children should stand; Bless – They put their hands together.
The Blessings of Obedience
“If you obey the Lord your God and faithfully keep all His commands that I am giving you today, He will make you greater than any other nation on earth.
2 Obey the Lord your God and all these blessings will be yours:
3 “The Lord will bless your towns and your fields.
4 “The Lord will bless you with many children, with abundant crops, and with many cattle and sheep.
5 “The Lord will bless your grain crops and the food you prepare from them.
6 “The Lord will bless everything you do.
7 “The Lord will defeat your enemies when they attack you. They will attack from one direction, but they will run from you in all directions.
8 “The Lord your God will bless your work and fill your barns with grain. He will bless you in the land that He is giving you.
9 “If you obey the Lord your God and do everything He commands, He will make you His own people, as He has promised.
10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that the Lord has chosen you to be His own people, and they will be afraid of you.
11 The Lord will give you many children, many cattle, and abundant crops in the land that He promised your ancestors to give you.
12 He will send rain in season from His rich storehouse in the sky and bless all your work, so that you will lend to many nations, but you will not have to borrow from any.
